Purpura Luna

This is the last silver commission ring on my "to-do" list, there is only one ring left to make before I start working on new projects.
Purpura Luna, Daniel Icaza, 2012, Sterling Silver, 1ct Amethyst, 1ct Moonstones
I have really enjoyed making rings in this "saddle style" shape. I feel that my fabrication and design approach lends itself to this style.

I have not made many rings in this shape so far, but if you would like to see a few more "saddle style" rings feel free to check out these links.

The last commission is a gold ring. I almost have it finished, so I will be sharing it quite soon (if everything goes well).
Be back soon with more.
Until next time.

Lacerta Oculo

One more commission done, another step closer to starting my next series of pieces for "Monetary Bondage". I am really happy with the way this ring turned out, It is definitely a statement piece.
Lacerta Oculo, Daniel Icaza, 2012, Sterling Silver, 11.5ct  Light Green Corundum ("Green Sapphire")
As usual I always let the materials guide me in the creative process and I rarely sketch my ideas for rings before I start, it is a truly serendipitous process. In this case it just kept getting bigger and bigger (which was a little intimidating) but in the end it turned out great and didn't become so large that it would be awkward or uncomfortable.

There are still a few more rings I have to make before I can focus on the upcoming shows, but if you would like to discuss the options and possibilities for a ring of your own or for some one special in your life, feel free to send me an email at:

I will be back with more to share soon.
Until next time.

Shiny Red Stones

I am learning that everyone wants a shiny red stone... I have had three separate requests for silver rings with big red stones in them.
Galam, Daniel Icaza, 2012, Sterling Silver, 21ct Red Corundum ("Ruby")
It was a bit tricky at first figuring out how to make each ring differently, as there is always the temptation to make them all the same, but not only would that be too easy, but boring as well.

Rubrum Crucis, Daniel Icaza, 2012, Sterling Silver, 12.5ct Red Corundum ("Ruby")
Boring not only for me as a maker, but for my clients as well. I personally can't stand the idea of doing the same exact thing over and over again forever. I also know that my clients appreciate the fact that every piece I make is unique and made one at a time. It ensures that the item they receive was made specially for them and that no one else will have a piece the same as theirs.

Rubrum Spiralem Plectere, Daniel Icaza, 2012, Sterling Silver, 12.5ct Red Corundum ("Ruby")
I love making rings and as much as I need to shift my attention to other projects, a few rings may keep popping up from time to time.
If anyone is interested in having a ring made, let me know and we can discuss the possibilities and options. Just send me an email:

I'll be back again soon with a few more rings to share before I start focusing on the new additions to "Monetary Bondage", which need to be ready for my solo show in 2013.
For now its back to the studio.
Until next time.

Duo Corda

Still trying to get as many rings finished as I can, so that I may begin work on other projects. This is my most recent work in gold. Another commissioned piece and I am very pleased with the results.
Duo Corda, Daniel Icaza, 2012, 18K Yellow Gold, Red Garnets (1ct each), Green Tourmaline  1.87ct
The name for this piece "Duo Corda" translates to "two hearts" and is inspired both by the nature of the commission and the design of the ring.
Duo Corda, Daniel Icaza, 2012, 18K Yellow Gold, Red Garnets (1ct each), Green Tourmaline  1.87ct
This ring is for a wedding anniversary gift so, what could be more appropriate than two hearts coming together?

In the middle picture of the grouping above, you can hopefully see how the design of the ring band is in the shape of two united hearts coming together at their tops; where the stones rest.

That's the newest piece for now. I hope you like it as much as I do.
I will be back again soon with more.
Until next time.

Quadraturam Circuli

Life has been hectic and busy as of late, but things are moving along quite well. I am still working on finishing a few projects, so that I can dedicate my full attention to "Monetary Bondage" for a while.
Until then I still have a few more rings to make.
Quadraturam Circuli, Daniel Icaza, 2012, Sterling Silver
I was inspired to make this ring after making the "Mongolian Wedding Bands" and it is based on the classic paradox of "Squaring the Circle".
For now its back to work, hopefully I will have more new and interesting things to share soon.
Until next time.

Upcoming!

It has been quite a while since I add some new content. Sorry about the lack of news. It has not been for a lack of activity that is for sure!

I have been busier than usual the past few weeks. I participated in an intensive two week course on marketing and product design focused on jewelry applications. It was an awesome class and I learned a lot, now I have even more ideas than before.

There are several upcoming events and I have my work cut out for me.

I will be participating in the 5th Beijing International Art Biennale 2012, the opening ceremony is in Late September (the 28th I believe) and will run until October 22nd.

The next stop after that should be Red Dot in Miami in December of 2012

I will then be having my first solo show in 2013 at the Centro Cultural Costarricense Norteamericano (June, 2013).

Besides planing and organizing for all the upcoming shows/events I need to get a lot of new art work completed. Over the next several months I plan to dedicate myself completely to producing the new series of Monetary Bondage pieces. As well as planning a launch for a new collection of very special rings. (here are some of the rings I have made in the past) I may even need to start a new blog/website in order to give them the appropriate space and attention that they will deserve.

For now I am off to the studio to wrap up a few loose ends and then getting to the "real work".
I'll be back as soon as I can to share the progress and happenings.
Until next time.
